Snow in England.
During February this year we experienced our worst winter for 20 years, the weather was uncharacteristically cold with, (for us), heavy snowfall.
Having lived in this area for many years this was the first time we saw many of the local landmarks shrouded in the white stuff.
The stone circles at Avebury are the site of a large henge and several stone circles surrounding the village of Avebury in Wiltshire. It is one of the finest and largest Neolithic monuments dating to around 3,000 BC. It is older than the better known Stonehenge which is located about 32 kilometres to the south, although the two monuments are broadly contemporary overall.
It took 2 days before the roads were reopened by which time the Avebury locals had beaten me to the virgin snow.
Avebury lies approximately midway between the towns of Marlborough and Calne, just off the A4 in Wiltshire, and the henge is a classified as a World Heritage Site.
Avebury is a National Trust property.
