Never discuss..
They say you should never discuss religion , that has always seemed a pretty good policy to me and one that I have stuck to down the years. However, wherever I have travelled outside of the US and Europe I have always noticed how much more devout are the people there. This particularly applies to the Middle East, Indo China and South East Asia - where the great religions of the world had their origins. Not being a particularly religious person I am always humbled by the faith that others hold so dear. Of the great religions the one that, for me, is the most impressive, is Buddhism. Buddhists do not seem to have the need to convert others, seemingly always happy and at peace with the world, they exercise real tolerance. Or is that I, who have only a slight understanding of the tenets of their religion, have failed to see below the surface. That may be the case but I doubt it ... the question I always ask myself is .... is it their religion that makes these people so fascinating or is the people that makes their religion so fascinating.
We are what we think. What we think, we become. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make our world.
Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.
Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one getting burned.
Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.
Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are both true and kind, they can change our world.
On life's journey Faith is nourishment, virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is the light by day and right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life nothing can destroy him, if he has conquered greed nothing can limit his freedom.
You only lose what you cling to.
